In Costa del Azahar "pilota valenciana" has been and still is, the original sport par excellence, as well as team sports, practiced here and that mark the sport calendar with their competitions such as: football, indoor football, basketball, handball, etc.

Our original sport "pilota valenciana" started in the Middle Ages. In Vila-real and Burriana it is very popular and in their courts, we will be able to see the outstanding figures of the Valencian Community.

As a coastal province water sports are very important, which is reinforced by the four yachting harbours that we have in "Costa Azahar". Canoeing, yachting, sailing, water skiing, diving and, in general a wide range of possibilities for those who like the sea to practice any sport.

Fishing is also very popular, in the coast or by boat, as well as in the inland rivers, with limpid waters which have trout as its emblematic specie.

Besides fishing, hunting is the major sport because Castellón offers special possibilities. Big game is represented by boar and wild goat. Small game is more generalised; almost in every municipal area there are game preserves, the main varieties are partridge, hare and rabbit. In October, and coming from Central Europe, we have thrush, and then "el parany" - the most extended and typical hunting in our region - is used.

We can not forget claypigeon and plate shooting, organised by societies with an old tradition, which have facilities to celebrate most of the competitions.

Pigeon breeding for sport is an outstanding tradition, and pigeon fanciers are frequent in our towns.
